Using a hexadecimal system there are 16777216 colors to name, based on a 256×256×256 sRGB colorcube. It is impractical to create 16777216 unique color names for each color, so instead of listing all 16777216 hexadecimal codes in alpha-numeric order, we will list hexadecimal codes by colorcube order so that colors from small colorcubes will be earliest in the list, for example a colorcube order of 4 means that the color comes from a 4×4×4 sRGB colorcube.

To avoid accidentally using a hexadecimal code that someone else has already named, please add an article to the Talk:Hexadecimal Chart so we can keep this chart as up to date as possible.

Note that a colorcube dimension of X contains with it all levels of colorcube dimensions that are one more than divisors of X−1. For example, a 5×5×5 colorcube contains with it all the colorcubes with dimensions of 2, 3, or 5, and a 16×16×16 colorcube contains with it all the colorcubes with dimensions of 2, 4, 6, or 16. Take care of this to avoid making duplicate names within the same priority. For example, 00FF00, which has a natural Wiki name of Green cannot be reused for the color 80FF00 when naming the 3×3×3 colorcube because both are different colors in the 3×3×3 colorcube.

The particular color namer used "colour name 8" can uniquely name colorcubes up to 17×17×17. However, the names do not necessarily correspond to exactly the color in the colorcube; therefore, it does not ensure that every color of a colorcube gets a unique name from a color of a different colorcube, even if both colorcubes are less than or equal to 17×17×17 colorcube.

The 2×2×2 colorcube consists of the 8 corners of the sRGB colorcube. This is one of the simplest ways to obtain a variety of colors in the sRGB color space, causing many old color computer models to use color palettes related to 2×2×2 colorcube; as such, these colors could be referred to as the 8 classic colors.
